François Demachy composed Oud Ispahan in 2012 as Dior's deepest bow to the great Eastern accord of rose, saffron and agarwood — and it remains one of the most polished readings of that tradition by any French house. Saffron flares first, leathery and warm, before a dense Damascus-style rose unfurls across a patchouli heart. The oud beneath is plush rather than feral, smoothed with sandalwood and labdanum into something closer to velvet than smoke. Projection is generous and the drydown lasts well past midnight. Wear it for occasions, in cool weather, when you want the room rearranged around you. For lovers of rose-oud ceremony at its most refined.
